Defensa will be competing in the U14, U16 and U18 age groups this year. Details below.
Tryouts will be held at Burlington Christian Academy AUG 27-31
U14-9am-12pm
U16-11am-2pm
U18-1:30pm-4:30pm
**Athletes are welcome to be at the school early if required.
We do NOT care about winning OVA tournaments, but we place our athletes in a position to succeed by focusing on what we learn in practice. It takes the sacrifice of winning points at times to enforce the importance of how to win. That being said, we offer equal playing time in practice, not in games. Coaches coach, athletes practice and perform, parents pay the bills and cheer in a positive manner!!! Hopefully all have fun without losing it on the lines people, refs and especially the coaches!
Tryouts will run like a camp setting with skills being taught and athleticism being tested. Athletes will be constantly working and learning. The tryouts will run from Aug 27-31 during the day. If an athlete is only able to make part of the tryout, it may reduce their chances of making the team. Cost to tryout will be $85 Teams will be announced at the conclusion of the week
U14-This will be a completely developmental team, learning the skill sets required to be successful and the training attitudes needed to be a champion. We feel that triple ball is great for a practice setting, not tournament play, so we will NOT be competing in any OVA triple ball competition. The team will compete in the U15/U16 in Canada and U14 in the US. 2 practices a week (Monday and Thursday) and every other Friday. Optional 2 workout days inbetween at home. We intend on taking 12 athletes who will commit to the program
U16- Developmental team with emphasize on learning to win. The emphasis again will be on competing in practice and developing skills. We will again have a heavy load in the US competition side of things. 3 practices a week (Tues, Thurs and Fri) with 2 work out days inbetween at home. We intend on taking 10 athletes who will commit to the program. 2 setters, 3 middles, 4 OH’s (of which all will act as DS/libero at times) and a libero
U18-Emphasize on learning to win. Like all teams, practice will be very heavy on development of skills and preparation for University the following year. 3 practices a week (Mon, Wed and Fri) with 2 work out days inbetween at home. We intend on taking 8-10 athletes who will commit to the program
We can not emphasize enough that Defensa is about athletes that have a team first attitude. Athletes that are more driven by personal goals over team goals are encouraged to find a different place to play.
